What is a divorce or family division valuation?
A divorce or family division valuation establishes the value of jewellery, watches and other precious assets so that their value can be properly considered when assets are being divided.
Unlike an insurance valuation, which is generally concerned with the cost of replacing an item, a family division valuation is intended to establish an appropriate value of the asset itself. This can be particularly important where the assets includes high-value jewellery, luxury watches, diamonds, precious metals or collections.
The National Association of Jewellers recognises Family Division or Divorce as a distinct purpose for a jewellery valuation and describes its purpose as establishing asset values so that they can be fairly divided between parties.
