Rare 1946 Tudor Oyster 4540

£1,695.00

This Tudor Oyster Reference 4540 is a premier piece of post-war horology, originating from 1946 – the historic first year that Hans Wilsdorf officially incorporated "Montres TUDOR S.A." as a dedicated brand. Extremely rare and highly celebrated for its distinctive sculpted horn lugs that flare from the mid-case, this 34mm stainless steel timepiece commands an exceptional wrist presence. It features the legendary manual-wind calibre 59 mechanical movement and a gorgeous cream dial badged with the earliest iteration of the vintage "Small Rose inside the Shield" logo tracking a sunken sub-seconds register.

Condition

This Tudor Oyster 4540 is presented in honest, characterful vintage condition, preserving its original historic components without intrusive restoration. The classic domed acrylic crystal exhibits a highly distinctive network of fine aging lines and micro-fractures (crazing) across its left surface, offering an unmistakable antique look. The stainless steel case retains its prominent architectural lines along the polished bezel and horn lugs, showing only surface marks consistent with its 80-year history. The original cream-white dial has aged beautifully with an even, warm patinated finish and gentle "freckling". The original "Oyster Patent" screw-down crown operates perfectly, winding smoothly and securing tightly.

Strap & Accessories

Ready for immediate wear or immediate display, this classic timepiece comes fitted with a brand new, genuine black calf leather strap paired with a matching stainless steel buckle. The premium texture of the fresh leather offers a comfortable fit while seamlessly complementing the monochrome aesthetic of the steel case.

As with all vintage watches, this timepiece should be considered non-water-resistant. To help preserve the movement and dial, we recommend avoiding exposure to water, moisture and steam.

Please inspect the photos carefully to assess the condition of the watch before proceeding with your purchase.
